Content creators hired by prediction market platform Polymarket faked winnings totaling $1.9 million as part of a campaign using lookalike clone sites

CBS News reports, citing an investigation by The Wall Street Journal.

According to the outlet, 118 TikTok videos (roughly 10% of the 1,100 analyzed) featured fictitious winnings of nearly $900,000, whereas the creators would have lost over $166,000 placing the same bets on the platform's actual website.

Additionally, in one video, a student showcased a $100,000 win on a $1,000 bet that US President Donald Trump would publicly say the word "McDonald's."

In reality, 50 real accounts bet on the exact same outcome and all of them lost.
